FRANKFORT, Ky -- Want to "open carry" into City Hall? Now you can.
Under a revison to the existing law, local governments can no longer prohibit people from openly carrying weapons in the municipal facilities such as the zoo, libriaries, and city hall.
The bill passed in 2012 with only 8 dissenting votes in the house...7 of those were Jefferson County representatives.
State Representative Robert Damron of Nicholasville says his office had recived complaints from all across the state that local officials were restricting people's rights to openly carry. Damron said the majority of the complaints were coming from Jefferson County and northern Kentucky.
The new legislation does not change the law on concealed carry weapons, which require a permit and training classes. Private buisnesses can also prohibit weapons on their property.
