PADUCAH, Ky. --The McCracken County school system has fired a teacher who helped a student write and send a letter to the local newspaper complaining about school safety.

Shawnda Pacheco, a Spanish teacher at Reidland High School, and a 17-year-old student wrote the letter, which expressed concern over safety at the school and the superintendent's reaction to threats that had allegedly been made.

The letter caused officials to shut down Reidland High December 18th. After an investigation, no threat was found and no charges have been filed.

District officials declined to comment, saying it was a personnel matter.

Pacheco had 11 years of experience teaching Spanish in the school system.
