(WOAI) When you gotta go you gotta go, but when one east Texas fugitive was answering the call of nature today, he felt the long arm of the law.

Eric McGowen, 20, was arrested by U.S. Marshals, as well as detectives from Liberty County, as he sat in a position where he couldn’t fight back.

"At the time of his arrest, he was using the toilet,’ Captain Steve Greene of the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office told 1200 WOAI news.

McGowen ran away from his trial in Liberty County last month as a girl told how McGowen and a group of men gang raped her in the small Texas town of Cleveland when she was 11 years old.

Despite the defendant’s absence, the jury convicted him of sexual assault of a child and sentenced him to 99 years in prison.

Greene says now that he has relieved himself, McGowen has a debt to pay to society.

“He’s currently in the Liberty County Jail, and at some point in the coming few days he’ll be transferred to prison,” he said.

There are plenty of toilets there.
